Multi System Sessions

Why Multi-Systems?

Multi-system

One of the most effective to reduce risk in the stock market is through diversification. Diversification is generally employed at portfolio level. Long term investors will only have less than a specified percentage (for example 5%) of their holdings in one security, and will hold various, hopefully uncorrelated securities. Shorter term traders diversify by applying a trading strategy across a large number of symbols.

An extra level of diversification can be obtained by applying several market strategies simultaneously over an already diversified portfolio. Using strategies with uncorrelated equity and drawdown curves may result in a smoother aggregate equity curve, which translates in lower overall risk.

Multi-system strategies have been harder to back-test. On tradery.com however this can be achieved with just a few clicks of the mouse. There is no coding required - just select the individual systems you want to add to your multi-system and click run, as described above.

How to create and run a multi-system session

Before starting a multi-system session, it is a good idea to run some tests on the individual systems that will be part of the session, to ensure that they run error free and to assess their performance.

To create a mulit-system session, open the Systems Manager page by clicking on the Systems tab.

In the "View Systems" area select "All". This will display all available systems sorted by creation date.

Each system in this list has check box next to its name. Check the boxes corresponding to the systems that are to be run in the multi-system session, select the symbols list and set all the other session parameters and options and click on the Run button.

Please note that the system whose code is displayed in the code editor (whether new or previously selected in the systems list) will also be run as part of the multi-system session. To run only thy systems that are checked in the systems list, clear the content of the code editor.

The number of systems in a multi-system session is currently limited to 2 for non logged in users and 5 for logged in users.

A multi-system session will fail if any of the individual systems contains syntax errors. In this case the Errors tab will display the messages for each of the systems that have caused the failure.

The charts generated by a multi-system session will not display any of the custom content (panes, series, etc) that any of the individual systems may generate. Their content will be limited to the price and volume bars, and the generated trades.

The Trades and Signals tabs will show the list of all trades and signals, each with the name of the system that generated them.
